This project will create a 12,580 square foot
"gateway building" on the Wisconsin-Illinois border for
State Patrol’s Motor Carrier and Inspection Services.
This prototype building will allow the State of
Wisconsin to transition to indoor inspections,
addressing truckers’ weight and safety issues and
improving employee safety. The facility contains three
primary components: Scale Building; Inspection Building;
and Cellular Building.
A key feature of the scale building is the
observation turret, which affords 270 degrees of clear
vision to monitor truck traffic to and through the
facility. Scale controls are centralized at this
location for staff efficiency and effectiveness. A 24
hour drivers’ room is available with toilet facilities
and weather TV. A meeting room, offices, and locker room
will support the State Patrol’s Highway operations for
activities such as field reports and accident
reconstruction.
The inspection building allows indoor inspections via
two drive-through bays. Employees are able to complete
indoor inspections from special access trenches. This
allows staff to complete a more thorough examination of
the vehicles from a safe area. This also eliminates
trucks being delayed on the ramp as they approach the
weigh station, which improves driver safety.
