Phase 1,
of a multi-phase system, has been recently completed.
This project involved construction of a bicycle
and pedestrian route along the sandstone cliffs of the
Wisconsin River near Downtown Wisconsin Dells. It will
ultimately connect the downtown with WDNR conservancy
properties and park land up river.
This
project includes two bridges, a stone-faced culvert and
50-foot timber bridge. The 10-foot wide, 1100-foot long
walk consists of colored and textured concrete to
resemble flagstone. It also includes multi-tiered
limestone boulder retaining walls.
The
second RiverWalk phase, scheduled for construction next
spring and will include a 180-foot long bridge. The
project is partially funded though a WDNR Stewardship
Grant.
Related
connecting projects include downtown district (BID),
streetscape improvements and a WDOT Highway
reconstruction project. Funding through a WDOT STP-D
grant was utilized.
