This project involves converting an
85,000-square foot former Wal-Mart store near the
downtown into a one-stop resource for Seniors.
This project began with a space needs
study, site selection, and evaluating the feasibility of
reusing the vacant building for the Senior Resource
Center.
Vierbicher Associates, Inc. (VAI)
provided architectural and site design services for the
project. Part of VAI’s charge was to prepare a plan for
moving the project forward, including building consensus
– particularly among the seniors.
VAI assisted the City’s RDA with the
initial feasibility study, cost analysis, and provided
architectural sketches to share the vision. The project
now has strong community support – especially among the
seniors. Project support is so strong that private
fundraising efforts were kicked off with a $250,000
matching gift.
The facility consists of a
29,100-square foot Senior Resource Center for their
Adult Day Care Center, Senior Citizens Center, and Wood
County Department of Aging. The facility will also have
nearly 19,000 square feet available for lease. Reusing a
large vacant building in the downtown will generate
traffic to help support the downtown merchants. |

for completion in October, 2003. |
