The City of Wisconsin Dells is
preparing a comprehensive plan under the new Smart
Growth guidelines. The City applied for and received a
Transportation Planning grant from the WDOT to help fund
the cost of the plan. The Comprehensive Plan addresses
all nine elements required by the Smart Growth
legislation.
Intergovernmental cooperation is a
cornerstone to the planning program as the City is
located within four counties and is adjacent to four
towns and the Village of Lake Delton. While numerous
shared-service agreements have long been in place, a
regional concept for growth management and future
development had yet to be established. The City’s
planning process, facilitated by Vierbicher Associates,
Inc., has undertaken this challenge through a series of
intergovernmental sessions focused on the establishment
of consensus based priorities.
As Wisconsin’s premier tourism
destination, the City’s plan progressively focuses on a
wide range of transportation and mobility issues. From
traffic flow and volume, and multi-modal needs to
vehicular – pedestrian choices. Vierbicher Associates
assisted in facilitating a comprehensive plan and
management approach that addresses these issues. |
