In response to job layoffs in the
paper industry, economic adjustment strategies
needed to be created for this region. During the
time period from late 1996 to early 1998, 745 pulp
and paper jobs were lost from three paper mills in
Wisconsin and Michigan.
Vierbicher Associates, Inc. was
hired to study the impact and prepare strategies for
the future. The following strategies were outlined
to offset negative impact and better prepare for the
future:
|
- Develop and Promote a Regional
Identity
- Enhance Business Retention
Efforts
- Aggressively Target and Recruit
Companies to Locate in the Region
- Facilitate Development of
Customized Training and Work Force Development
