This project involved the implementation of a comprehensive downtown redevelopment strategy, which addressed damage done to the City’s downtown area by periodic flooding of the Pecatonica River. 

Our redevelopment strategy was a three-pronged approach, which included flood mitigation, historic preservation and economic development. Vierbicher Associates developed a procedure for flood-proofing the downtown’s historic buildings, while maintaining and enhancing their historic integrity. The implementation of these activities included managing the acquisition of property and acting as the City’s agent in the relocation (permanent and temporary) of numerous businesses and residents displaced by the project. We prepared a retail market analysis and recommended strategies to strengthen retail trade. We also assisted in preparing a successful Main Street Application.
