| The
City of Portage constructed Well No. 8 to replace
an existing well that was found to be contaminated
with tetrachlorethylene. The loss of the existing
well put excess demand on the two remaining wells.
This created a water supply deficiency that
required the City to construct a new well. To make
it affordable, a CDBG grant was obtained to help
fund the $1.3 million project.
The new 2,100 GPM
capacity well includes iron filtration and water
softening equipment and is integrated into the
City’s SCADA system. A new 6,600 square foot
building was connected to an existing building
that was remodeled for use as the new Portage
Water Utility office.
