The City of Prairie du
Chien is implementing a comprehensive Stormwater
Management Program. The project includes the following
elements |
|
- Stormwater
Management Plan
- Stormwater Master
Plan (Priority Watershed)
- Infrastructure
Improvements
The City has utilized a
number of public funding programs throughout the
process. Programs include both grants and tax
incremental financing.
Following the
Stormwater Master Plan, the City constructed a new
stormwater interceptor to serve the southeast portion of
the City. The interceptor is 7,800 feet long and serves
a 700 acre watershed. The project incorporated several
innovative BMP’s including:
- Two wet detention basins
- Diversion of runoff from an
adjacent watershed
- 5,000 foot long grass-lined
greenway with a small diameter storm sewer underdrain.
- Infiltration basin at the outlet
with no surface discharge
|
|
This project provided
numerous benefits including eliminating flooding,
reduced project cost by 25% versus conventional designs
and improved water quality through infiltration of 100%
of the runoff.
