Vierbicher Receive
Excellence In Masonry Award
Reedsburg, WI
– Vierbicher Associates’ Meg Roback was honored for
her design of the Kenosha Safety and Weight Enforcement
Facility (SWEF) at an awards breakfast at the 2004 American
Institute of Architects (AIA) Wisconsin Convention.
The Kenosha SWEF was honored by the
Wisconsin Concrete Masonry Association as one of the top five
projects. Projects were recognized for utilizing concrete
masonry products, attributes and characteristics.
The 12,580-square foot building creates a
"gateway building" along westbound I-94 near the
Wisconsin-Illinois boarder. Designed for the Department of
Transportation and operated by the State Patrol, the facility
permits inspectors to weigh commercial trucks and conduct
safety examinations of their brakes, axles, wheels, and other
equipment.
Designed as the first of several facilities
throughout the state, this prototype incorporates the latest
scale technology, and moves truck inspection indoors to
improve efficiency and safety. The design concept makes the
building quick to comprehend to individuals traveling at
interstate speeds.
Concrete masonry units play a key role in
the facility’s success – incorporating range of colors,
textures, and sizes to convey the design concept.
