More than 87 percent of Wisconsin residents enjoy some form of outdoor recreation. This high number reflects a population passionate about outdoor recreation and the traditions that accompany it.
Many communities today recognize the importance of creating a more “livable community” by enhancing local recreation opportunities. This strategy helps municipalities retain and recruit a highly skilled workforce, which is extremely important to grow the local economy.
Recreation facilities also capture part of the $18.5 billion spent on tourism in Wisconsin each year.
Unfortunately, due to tight local budgets, recreation projects many times take a back seat to other community needs.
However, grant programs are available to help make park and recreation projects feasible.
Attached is a Vierbicher Bulletin, “2017 Park & Recreation Public Funding Opportunities,” which summarizes the funding programs available and the upcoming application deadlines.
The bulletin details public funding programs for park and recreation projects to help municipalities decide which is the best fit for their needs.
