Project Description

The Abel Court development in Stoughton, Wisconsin, represents a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts of Habitat for Humanity to provide affordable housing solutions throughout Dane County. The project aims to address the pressing need for safe and stable housing for low-income families in the area. The development consists of a cluster of energy-efficient homes built with the help of volunteers and the future homeowners themselves. These homes are not just a shelter; they are a symbol of hope and empowerment, as families partner with Habitat to build their own futures.

The Abel Court development features a thoughtfully designed neighborhood that fosters a strong sense of community. With well-planned streets, green spaces, and communal areas, this Habitat for Humanity initiative aims to create not only houses but also a welcoming and supportive environment.

A new cul-de-sac was constructed within a previously platted right-of-way. Vierbicher worked with Habitat and the City to change the zoning of the lots to allow a zero lot line development. This provided additional density needed for the development to be feasible. Vierbicher created two Certified Survey Maps to adjust the lot lines, completed construction plans and specifications for the needed infrastructure improvements, and provided construction staking and construction oversight for the improvements.

This project exemplifies the core values of Habitat for Humanity, emphasizing the importance of affordable housing as a foundation for a brighter future.
