Project Description

Fish Hatchery Road is one of the major transportation corridors in the City of Fitchburg. This north-south arterial between the Beltline Highway and CTH PD (McKee Road) provides commuters with a direct route to and from the Beltline Highway. With the roadway at the end of its useful life, the roadway needed to be reconstructed. Construction of the $18.5M improvement took over two years to complete following extensive public outreach to define the final improvements. The reconstruction replaced deteriorating pavement, retaining walls, storm sewer, and upgraded sanitary sewer and water main. The new six-lane cross section provides a bus lane in each direction, a new multi-use pedestrian path on the west side of the road, and decorative streetscaping features. The final product improved intersection safety and congestion issues, and provides safer access to existing and future developments throughout the corridor.

Vierbicher was proud to partner with KL Engineering on this project to provide support during the public engagement process, and provide water main, sanitary sewer and streetscaping design. The roadway now provides a safer, more efficient and welcoming corridor for the traveling public. The project has already inspired reinvestment in the community with construction of the Terrace Point Apartments recently completed by Inventure Capital.
