Project Description

The City of Monona is a land-locked community that must utilize existing properties to their highest and best use in order to experience growth and be efficient with available land. With that in mind, the City has been working for many years to plan and prepare for redevelopment of a 7.4-acre area now known as Yahara Commons.

The Current, the first of three phases of this master redevelopment project, was completed in the summer of 2019. The 7.4-acre site includes a five-story mixed use building with 96 apartments and over 25,000 square feet of commercial space with offices and restaurants. The site includes 105 surface and 135 underground parking, as well as public boat slips along the river. The new Grand Crossing Park incorporates a number of unique public amenities, including an ice skating rink in the winter, as well as a city-owned and operated ice cream shop.

Vierbicher provided site design, stormwater management, land surveying, and municipal and state permitting for the The Current.
