Project Description

In July of 2017, Vernon County experienced a substantial flood event that had a devastating impact on the residents and economy in much of the region. Subsequent to this flooding, a Federal Disaster Declaration was made by the President that provided federal funding to assist with disaster relief through the US Economic Development Agency (EDA).

A joint application was made by the City and Vernon County. The application was to expand the City’s Industrial Park, to provide needed building sites that would be resilient to natural disasters and provide the necessary infrastructure to support a strong economy. The expansion will include an additional 70 acres of industrial and commercial building sites.

The EDA grant award of $2.64 million was announced in April of 2019, and construction was completed in 2019 and 2020. The project includes the construction of streets, sanitary sewer, water main, storm sewer and storm water management facilities, extension of pedestrian/bicycle trails into the industrial park, grading of development sites and extension of utilities. Vierbicher worked with the City and County on all pre-development activities including the grant application and administration, annexation, intergovernmental agreement, and creation of a Tax Increment District. Vierbicher is also providing civil engineering, surveying, and permitting services for the project.
