Vierbicher at 50: A Half-Century of Community & Innovation

On July 1, 1976, Jim Vierbicher opened a single civil engineering office on Main Street in Reedsburg, Wisconsin. Fifty years later, that single location has grown into a firm of over 120 people serving communities across Wisconsin.

This is the story of how it happened, the milestones we’ve shared, and the people and places that made it all possible.

Vierbicher started small, the way most lasting things do: one founder, a stack of business cards, and a firm belief that good engineering could make Wisconsin communities better places to live.

Today, that belief reaches across the entire state. Our dedicated teams work out of five regional offices:

  • Reedsburg
  • Madison
  • Milwaukee
  • Green Bay
  • Prairie du Chien

From these hubs, we serve cities, villages, towns, counties, and private clients throughout Wisconsin. While our geographic reach has expanded significantly over the last five decades, the core purpose behind our work remains the same.

Over the past 50 years, Vierbicher has evolved into a team-based partner capable of taking a project from its initial concept to finished reality. By keeping our services under one roof, we ensure seamless collaboration without handing off the vision.

Our expertise spans two interconnected sides of the same mission:

Community Planning & Development

  • Planning & Community Development: Helping municipalities picture their future and chart a practical path to reach it.
  • Economic Development: Turning local vision into tangible investment, jobs, and community growth.
  • Landscape Architecture: Shaping the parks, downtowns, and public spaces where people naturally gather.
  • Public Funding Services: Helping communities identify and secure the grant and loan dollars that make major projects possible.

Full-Service Engineering & Surveying

  • Civil & Municipal Engineering: Building and maintaining the critical infrastructure, roads, utilities, and public systems communities rely on every day.
  • Water Resources Engineering: Managing the stormwater, wastewater, and water systems essential for public health and environmental safety.
  • Land Surveying: Getting every project started on solid, accurate ground.

Great projects rarely require just one isolated service. The best outcomes happen when these disciplines pull together, which is exactly how we have approached our work for half a century.

A lot changes in half a century. Technologies evolve, blueprints go digital, and communities grow. But our core purpose has not budged.

From the beginning, Vierbicher was built by people who believed in the places they served. We understand that excellent engineering isn’t just a technical challenge, it is deeply human.

Our Vision: One team for a better today.

Our Mission: Fostering a culture that inspires people to deliver exceptional results.

This philosophy dictates how we treat the people we work with. Mutual respect and trusted, long-term relationships have been at the center of this firm since day one. Fifty years of continuous work do not happen without it.

To mark this incredible milestone, our team put together a short video looking back at where Vierbicher started, celebrating where we are today, and teasing where we are headed next. It’s a story about Wisconsin communities, impactful projects, and the people who have carried us this far.

Fifty years is a milestone worth celebrating, but if there is one thing this firm believes, it is that our best work is always still ahead of us. The communities we serve keep growing, and we intend to keep innovating right alongside them.

To every client, partner, employee, and community member who has been part of our history: thank you. You are the reason we are here and the reason we are so excited about the future.

If your community or business has a project on the horizon, we would love to help you turn your vision to reality.
