Project Description

The Waterloo School District proposed referenda to update the school and add a fitness center, at a total of $16.2 million in improvements. The project consisted of a 8,000 renovation and 38,630 expansion and included a 3 station gym, a new community fitness center and multi-purpose room, much needed new and renovated restrooms and locker rooms, and a large common area connecting to the existing facility that allows for connection to any future additions.

The updates encompassed safety and security upgrades; ADA compliance updates; capital maintenance and building infrastructure improvements; a restroom addition; site improvements; and acquisition of related furnishings, fixtures, and equipment. The fitness center included of an addition for a fitness center, a gymnasium, locker rooms and a commons; site improvements; and acquisition of related furnishings, fixtures, and equipment.

The larger space allows the district to hold more regional and sectional competitions from athletics to fine arts. The facility also provides opportunity to organizations for large expos and programs. The Waterloo community, school staff, parents and students now have a new gym to go with their new fitness and multi-purpose areas.
