This project involved the redevelopment of a portion of an existing commercial parking lot to incorporate modern stormwater management features while maintaining full site functionality. The improvements were carefully integrated into the existing layout, enhancing environmental performance without disrupting traffic flow or parking capacity.
A defining feature of this project was the incorporation of small rain gardens within parking lot islands, made particularly challenging by a significant elevation drop across the site. To address this, the rain gardens were thoughtfully stepped and tiered down the slope, allowing each basin to function effectively while working with the site’s natural topography. This ingenious stormwater design not only solved a difficult grading issue but also transformed a constraint into a sustainable and visually cohesive solution.
